Digital East St. Louis is a National Science Foundation funded project to create and implement place-based digital humanities curriculum with middle school students in the East St. Louis school district, a high-minority, high-poverty district. Participants explored their city’s history in a project-based learning environment, learning digital humanities content and technology skills to present their learning and culture. This project was done was a collaboration between the STEM Center and the IRIS Center for Digital Humanities. This project ran from 2015-2017, and more information about the participant’s projects is available on their website. Participant’s displayed their projects using Omeka, a digital humanities web-publishing and database management software.
